Western Style Decorating Tips

The feel of Western themed décor is rich comfortable and inviting. Whether you live in the middle of a big city or a rural area, you can easily alter the feel of your living room. If your house is currently adorned in neutral tones, you can bring it to life by simply adding accessories to compliment the neutral tones. This article offers tips and ideas that will prove useful in giving your home a western flair that will challenge that of the old west.

The use of desert hues combined with leather an wood all provide authenticity for this type of décor.   Add depth, warmth and appeal to a neutral room by using rich, rustic colors.

Add Southwestern Color
The tones regularly found in this decorating style include cactus green, rust orange, adobe red and yellow shades inspired by the sun. Adding depth and warmth to a room with furniture that has natural colors is as easy as painting a few walls, muted orange and deep yellow shades can accomplish the job easily. Accent rugs, ceramic pottery, throw pillows and other accessories liven up the room.   Wall hangings and throw pillows can consist of ornately textured tapestries as well.

Terra Cotta and Ceramics Add a Western Influence
Lots of terra cotta and ceramics will give a richer look to the area. Placing terra cotta tiles on the walls, floors or counter tops of your home should be taken into consideration. Using boldly colored ceramic pots filled with cactus and other greenery is perfect in this style of décor. Containers adorned in a southwestern pattern are a wonderful addition just as well.

Fabrics Add an Artistic Flair
Some of the appeal of western décor stems from the richly textured patterns included in this style of decorating. Hand-woven fabrics with fringed edges are great additions. Consider hanging a single large tapestry decorated with scenes of the desert on one wall to create the room’s focal point. The use of richly textured and colorful throw adds a burst of color when casually thrown over a neutral sofa.

Using natural elements is perfect for the western themed home. The comfortable, warm and eye-catching look and atmosphere is created by a combination of stone, wood, leather and metal. If a brown leather sofa or love seat is within your budget buying one would be a great idea. The western feel can be added to with the inclusion of tables constructed with rough woods. Furniture with a distressed look is just right; wrought iron adds style to the room as well.

If you should decide to lean towards a more southwestern style, turquoise accents will lend a Native American appeal to the room. Southwestern inspired throw rugs and throw pillows should be considered for sofas containing shades of turquoise.

Remember that the look of the Wild West draws from ceramics, natural textures and materials and colors inspired by the desert. If your furnishings are styled in a way entirely contrary to what you need and do not have the means of buying new, consider using neutral toned slipcovers. Slipcovers these days are often fitted in order to allow for neat and clean appearances. Embellish your home in the spirit of the west!

Quick Tips for Warming Up Your Bath

Published by ShreveportDesigner under Bathrooms

Nothing is more luxurious in winter than a warm bathroom. Luckily, this is one luxury available for everyone, without you having to sacrifice period style or your pocketbook. So many of the more desirable options are completely affordable. For instance, plug-in electric towel warms are under $150, and overhead rain shower fixtures begin at only $60. For as little as $200, you can easily find a good pressure-balance mixer. At the other end of the spectrum, for those with money to spend, you may want to consider a jetted pedestal tub or steam shower system, which might set you back a few thousand dollars.

Today’s towel warmers and radiators come in two basic styles. There’s the traditional round tube shape and the flat-panel “Euro” style. If your bathroom is cramped, one option is a tubular towel-warming basket, which can be mounted to keep your towels hot and within easy reach.

Every towel warmer generates heat. But surprisingly, many of the hard-wired versions are powerful enough to be considered radiators. If you go with an inexpensive electric model that puts out 100 watts or so, it will keep the towels dry and reduce dampness and mildew in the bathroom. If they’re sized and placed properly, the more powerful hard-wired electric or hydronic towel radiators can easily heat larger spaces. If you’re worried about safety, neither version gets too hot to touch. Electric towel warmers only reach 140 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas hydronics range between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on how hot you keep the system. These radiators can provide your bathroom with zoned heating.

When choosing a unit, you need to consider the amount of tile or stone, the type and location of existing heat sources such as steam radiators or forced air, and how many windows. A good dealer can help you find the perfect unit to suit your needs. If your bath is too tiny for even a small towel warmer, see if you can find room along the baseboard for a couple or horizontal radiator panels to keep your room nice and toasty.

When it comes down to it, however, it’s the water in the bath or shower that warms the most. If you plan on upgrading the shower anyway, consider installing a pressure-balance or thermostatic mixing valve. Inexpensive and simple, a pressure-balance valve will keep the water pressure in the shower constant, preventing sudden fluctuations in water temperature caused by such incidents as a flushed toilet, for instance.

If you’re looking for a more sophisticated system, then consider a thermostatic valve, which mixes hot and cold water to fairly precise temperatures (within one degree Celsius of the setting). These valves regulate fluctuations in the incoming water pressure as well.

Not surprisingly, prices for these truly luxurious valves begin at about $1,000, though you can easily spend more. Conveniently, many of these mixers are available in suites that include period-inspired shower heads and cross-handled knobs or levers. Higher-end valves even come with memory settings, allowing each family member to choose and record a preferred shower temperature.

If you can’t get enough humidity in winter and you love your shower, a steam shower is another great option. To install one, you’ll probably need a major retrofit, since there must be a spot for the generator and you may have to make modifications for the steam shower doors. But on the plus side, a twenty-minute steams uses very little water: only about two gallons. But a basic system—including a generator, steam head, and temperature controls—starts at about $3,000. Once you’ve added any extras such as stereo speakers, light, and aromatherapy packages, the price will go up.

Do you prefer an old-fashioned tub for your bath? Prices for reproduction roll-top designs with claw feet start at about $1,000 for either cast iron or the more environmentally friendly acrylic. These deep tubs are the ultimate soaking paradise. They also come in double-ended styles to accommodate two (or multiple children). With the claw feet available in different styles and finishes, you can choose a tub that will complement any décor. If you’re looking at high-end options, you can find custom-made tubs in copper, steel, marble, and even teak.

If your dream bath is a traditional tub with a water- or air-jet system, your best bet is to go with a pedestal or Roman tub. Strategically placed jets will turn any bathtub into a home spa. And don’t worry, the skirt will conceal the tubes and motor. A fully equipped air-jet tub isn’t cheap. Expect to pay upward of $4,000.

Get That Fresh New Look With These Simple Tips

By any chance, could your home use an update? Perhaps your home is older, or maybe the look is just tired. Nonetheless, it’s possible to make your home look as though it’s been remodeled without spending much money at all. Your home is supposed to be your castle. Thus, you want it to be as welcoming, comfortable, and appealing as possible. If you’re on a budget but still want to give the interior of your home a much-needed facelift, here are some super easy tips to get you started.

Painting: The Cheapest and Easiest Way to Transform a Room
Not everyone enjoys painting, but it can go a long way to creating beauty in a room. Paint can liven things up a bit, especially walls that are the average off-white or some other drab color. To really make a statement, paint one or two of the walls a bold or bright color that blends with the overall color scheme. Try painting those furniture pieces that look old and worn. Your ragged wooden coffee tables and wood end tables will take on an entirely different look with a little paint and some stencils.

Take a Good Look at Your Furniture
Is your furniture starting to look old? Are you perhaps just simply tired of the style? Or maybe things just feel too congested? It’s time to take a long, hard look at the room. Consider taking out a few pieces that you never use anyway. What this will do is open the room up, giving it a more open and airy feel and appearance.

Slipcovers are a great option if you cannot afford new furniture. With today’s variety, you can spend a fraction of what you would on new furniture and still come away with entirely new-looking furnishings in your home. You also might consider repurposing the furniture. Look around and see if you have a piece or two in other rooms that are never used. These pieces could easily be painted and reused, perhaps as storage for games, toys, and other things that tend to get strewn all over the house, creating a messy or junky look.

Add Color, and You Add Life
Enough can’t be said about color when it comes to giving the interior of your home new life. Not only does color attract the eye, but it has the ability to create different moods. Bright colors energize things, while soft colors relax. If you have a monotonous color scheme, consider the addition of exciting color splashes. Find some attention-grabbing wall accents, or add brightly colored and intricately patterned throw rugs and pillows. You won’t believe how your room is transformed when splashes of color are used to break up the boredom.

Accessories Make the Difference
As every woman knows, accessories are the “jewelry” of the home. However, you need to know how to use them. Too many accessories results in a home that looks cluttered and disorganized. If you have too few accessories, it will have a cold, blank, and indifferent tone. Therefore, you need to find a balance.

The addition of more accents often gives larger rooms a more personal, intimate look. One strategy is to place many accents in a grouping on one large wall. If the room is smaller, than just the opposite is true. In this case, use an intricately patterned tapestry or other oversized decoration piece on one wall.

With the help of these tips, you can totally reinvent the look of your rooms. Even better, you won’t have to spend a lot of money to create those great spaces.

Simple Tips For Decorating A Large Living Room

When there is a large living room in a house, its sometimes difficult to decorate that massive space properly. Large spaces present their own decorating troubles, just as small spaces do. If you are face with a large living room and dont quite know how to proceed, here are some tips to keep in mind to get you started.

Use Dark Colors to Decorate
When you use dark colors when decorating, the space will appear smaller. You can get the room to appear smaller by simply painting the walls a few shades darker than you normally would.

If you dont want the entire room to appear smaller, then try using darker colors to accessorize the room, as this will often give it less of a large feel. By placing dark-colored furniture or even carpet in the room, youll make your large living room feel slightly smaller and not so big and open.

Use the Space in the Living Room Accordingly
Depending on how large your living room is, youre going to want to plan out the space accordingly. Among other things, this means that all the seating shouldnt be right on top of each other. You want to be sure to space your furniture out so that it looks evenly distributed across the room. You should also leave plenty of space between the couch and the wooden coffee table, enough so that people can walk in between the two. With the proper utilization of space, you can prevent a large room from looking too cold and open, instead making it feel more comfortable and quaint.

Use Large Pieces of Art to Decorate the Walls
The pieces of art you use to decorate the walls should be planned accordingly with the area of blank space you are working with. A 5×7 picture, for instance, isnt going to work well hanging alone on a very large blank wall in your living room. Instead, you should choose a portrait or some other piece that will take up most of the upper half of the wall.

If a large piece of art isnt in your budget, then try using several pieces of smaller artwork to create a pattern or collage for the wall. In this case, though, you want to be sure to space the artwork out so that it is covering a majority of the wall.

Buy a Large Piece of Furniture
Consider purchasing a large piece of furniture for your large living room if you dont already have one. You might look for an entertainment center or oak tv stand, a bookshelf, a large couch, or even something like a piano or pool table.

By placing a large furnishing in the room, the large room will appear smaller and everything will seem more in proportion. You might also use this furnishing as a focal point, decorating the rest of the room around it.

When it comes to decorating a large living room, you need to focus on properly utilizing the space in the room. By only using a small area of the room, the room will then look massive and not very appealing. Instead, if you use the space, including the walls, as much as possible, your large living room will be very appealing, with perhaps even a quaint and comfortable feel to it.

Decorating 101: Country Style Apartment Living

If you’re living in an apartment, chances are that you’re living in the city. If you call a city apartment home yet long for the warm, cozy atmosphere of a country home, this is something you can certainly achieve. Whether the city you live in is big or small, you don’t have to give up a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere in your home. With this décor, you can walk in your home and feel like you’re back in the country surrounded by rampant wildflowers and fresh air that flows through every fiber of your being. If you’re currently living in a blank, expressionless apartment, here are some tips on how to turn that space into a real home.

Start with the Furniture
When you’re decorating in a country-style décor, the more wood, the better. Your kitchen table, sofa, and other large pieces can be made of a natural-looking wood, such as knotty pine. Find these furnishings doesn’t necessarily have to cost you a fortune, as you can often find used furnishings at flea markets or online.

Another great complement to this look is wood end tables. Lace doilies or checked pattern cloths can then be casually draped over the tables. Candles in jars will give the table a country appeal, especially with scents like cinnamon, vanilla, or apple pie.

Decorate the Walls for Added Interest and Depth
Bare walls typically appear very stark and blank, giving the entire room a cold feel. Warm up those walls by hanging some rural or black-and-white prints framed in wood. Or create a great focal point for the room by hanging a country-style quilt alone on a large wall.

Don’t Forget the Kitchen!
If you have the space in your kitchen, a natural or knotty pine wood table is a great country addition. For a continous feel to your décor, top your table with a checkered or lace cloth. Antique-looking bar stools at the counter are another great option if there just any room for a table. You can also enhance the country atmosphere with wildflower arrangements, wooden bowls and spoons, and even some country candles. Other nice touches with a country feel include a wicker centerpiece for the table and a wooden spice rack for the countertop.

Add Accessories and Accents You Love
When decorating your apartment in country style, the primary thing you want to remember is to use plenty of natural, exposed, or antique-looking wood and simply patterned cloths for table decoration. Also don’t forget to get a little of your unique personality into the mix by adding those accessories and accents you truly love. Don’t forget about other classic country touches, such as wicker, quilts, natural flowers, country-style candles, and bookcases filled with old or leather-bound books.

Apartments often feel totally uninviting, appearing more or less to be the same. When you warm up your living space, you make it your own. By creating a style you love, you will welcome coming home after a hard day’s work. When it comes to comfort, coziness, and a truly welcoming feeling, country décor is like no other. Create a décor in your apartment that you will love coming home to!

Simple Ideas for decorating a Playroom

A child’s playroom should provide a place in the house where a child can have fun and enjoy having his or her own space. Not only that, but it allows you to get your child’s toys out of sight and into one room. However, this doesn’t mean that the playroom should not have functional decorating. Here are some great ideas for creating a playroom that is not only perfect for a child but functional for you.

Have Plenty of Storage Options
To keep the playroom neat and organized, you need to have plenty of storage options. This way, when it comes time to clean up, everything in the room will have its proper place. If you don’t provide organization and storage, your child’s playroom may end up looking every day like a tornado blew through it.

You can find furniture pieces such as an wood dresser that includes storage, or other items such as plastic bins and shelving units on the wall.

Be sure that any small items, such as puzzles, art supplies, and other toys, are stored in individual baskets or bins.

Make the Playroom Durable
A child’s playroom is no place for your favorite piece of furniture, unless you want to get it broken. Even little girls tend to be rough on furniture and other decorating items. Keep the room durable by keeping any decor items simple.

Use plastic bins and baskets for storage; they can also serve as decorations for the room. Find a rug with darker colors and patterns to hide any stains that might come. Also be sure that rug is easy to clean.

Keep Play Areas Safe for Your Kids
If you have any bookshelves, dressers, or an oak desk in the room, bolt them to the wall to prevent them from falling on a climbing child. Children’s size furniture is always best, as too-tall furniture can be unsafe for younger children. Store any small toys and art supplies up high where younger children won’t be able to reach them. Be sure to baby-proof the room if you have a baby or toddler. Covers should be placed on all the outlets and any hanging blind cords from the windows should be put out of reach.

Let Your Child Have a Say in the Playroom
Your child is going to enjoy his or her playroom so much more if he or she has a say in its decor. It’s easy to ask your children’s opinion on such things as the color of the walls or what color carpet they want. Even if your child wants a themed playroom, this is relatively easy to accomplish. Just find some stencils or stick-ons to add to the walls.

You want your child to like the look of the playroom because then he or she will be more likely to want to play in the room and keep it clean. Allowing your child to have some say in the decor and items in the room to a certain degree will make things far easier for everyone.

The playroom should be your child’s favorite place in the house. It gives then their own space in which they can be creative and independent, and have fun. Follow these decorating tips and you’ll find that decorating a playroom can be much more simple and less expensive than you may have thought.

Simple Tips to Make Your Country Style Decor Shine

No décor is more welcoming and warm that country style. Country décor conjures up fond memories of going to grandma’s house, warm family gatherings, and delicious meals. It’s you and your family who are the ones to spend the most time in your home, so you want it to reflect your personalities and likes. Everyone wants a home that not only gives a warm and inviting impression but is appealing as well. The following tips will help you spruce up and add splashes of interest to your home.

The Key to Country Décor
What really makes a country atmosphere in the home is all the little extras, or accents. Wood furniture is an essential component for this look, while natural fabrics such as cotton textiles add depth and color. Knick knacks and other display items should be made of pewter, copper, iron, stone, and other natural materials. For added appeal, display all your kitchen collectibles on a wrought-iron bakers rack.

Giving Furniture That Comfortably Worn “Country Look
For rustic appeal, you want the furnishings in a country décor to appear slightly worn. This is an easy look to achieve if you have solid wood furniture. Simply apply a layer of paint. Then, when it’s partially dry, rub the edges and other areas that would normally wear with a cloth or sponge. Or if you like, you can let the paint dry thoroughly and then sand the edges lightly with sandpaper to create that worn look. Light-colored wooden furniture such as pine is ideal for this look as it adds to the country feel.

Accents Make All the Difference!
The country décor theme has endless options. Nothing makes a room feel more country than a handmade quilt. Sling one casually across a corner of a rocking chair or throw one over the back of the sofa. You can also add color and texture to the look with some throw pillows. Choose country-style throw pillows with crocheted covers or country-oriented tapestry designs. Another great touch for this décor style is a braided rug. You can create a cozy central area in which to relax or entertain guests by placing a large oval braided rug in the center of a room and then arranging furnishings around it.

Baskets, copper pots, and vases are practically a necessity when it comes to designing a country décor. Baskets are useful in practically any room. Place a small basket in the living room, perhaps on the fireplace mantle or on oak coffee tables or end tables. Load the basket with herbs, greenery and dried flowers. In the kitchen, a medium-sized basket filled with painted wooden fruits is perfect for the center of the table. Baskets are also a useful place to put towels in the bathroom and magazines in the living room.

Copper and stone pots will contribute an earthy touch to the décor. They can be filled with flowers fresh out of the garden or loaded with herbs. What’s great about these pots is that they can be placed anywhere and everywhere. Nothing makes a home feel more warm and welcoming than live plants and herbs.

These tips will help you decorate your country home with style. Of course, you want your home to express your unique nature, so be sure to incorporate your own creative ideas as well. This way your home will be warm and beautiful, and showcase your individuality as well.

How to Decorate Your Home in a Western Theme

Do you ever get nostalgic for that time when men worked out on the farm or ranch and women did the cooking and other household chores? Your mind goes back to a time wh en family was at the center of people’s lives, where all gathered around a large country solid oak dining table to share a tasty home-cooked meal. You are reminded of relaxing times in the country, a place where azure blue skies stretch down to meet beautiful lush green grasses. You can capture this feeling of an era gone by with a country and western décor.

Re-creating the Past

It’s easier than you might think to create this comfortable, welcoming look. For many, an elegant, stately looking home is the goal. If you simply want all who enter your home to feel at ease and relaxed, then consider a country and western décor. Your home feels as if it’s open to anyone and everyone, and all would stay forever, if only they could. When they visit, your guests will feel right at home. Your décor has everything to do with the impression people have when they visit your home.

When decorated with a country and western style, most homes look warm and lived in. Part of its charm is all the wood and rustic colors that are hallmarks of this style. For an authentic, old-time look, go with wood floors and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling.

A kitchen styled in this theme is typically oversized and full of color. Look for décor accents such as sunflowers, roosters, and old teapot collections. You might even find a wrought-iron baker’s rack or gingham tablecloth to accent the décor. What you end up with looks just like grandma’s kitchen. Although you can’t go back to that time when life ran at a much slower pace, the next best thing is creating that look in your home.

When you decorate with a country and western style, a little paint can go a long way. Choose from a variety of rich, rustic colors, such as tan, brown, maroon, dark blue, and forest green. You might even find a few western striped throw rugs that contain these colors and scatter them here and there on the wood floor.

More Western Than Country

Do you lean more toward the western look? You can create a fabulous look decorating with horseshoes and rodeo-themed throws. You can use throws in so many different ways, draped across a worn spot on the sofa or hooked lazily over the back of a rocking chair. Or hang one on an empty wall to create an incredible focal point.

Other great additions include table runners and coasters that share the western theme. Hang a wooden wagon wheel or a cowboy hat on the wall to create the ultimate western effect. If you’re looking for something original that’s sure to be a conversation piece, there are even cowboy boot planters for your wood coffee table you can purchase. You might also find items such as horse-shaped wrought-iron candle holders, huge Texas star wall hangings, and other western-themed accessories. These will all give your home that look of days long past, when families gathered together after a long, hard day on the ranch. These days, you can choose from a variety of western-themed accessories, from huge Texas star wall hangings to wrought-iron candle holders in the shape of horses, that will give your home a look of days long past-when family life meant gathering together after a long, hard day on the ranch.

A Style That’s Easy to Live With

Decorating your home with a country and western décor is easy, and you will create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere that your entire family will love. Your guests will also enjoy the décor-so much so that you may be hard-pressed to get them to leave your inviting home on the range.

Easy Lighting Options for the Kitchen

Depending on the style and layout of your kitchen, chances are that you have many more lighting options than you think you do. When it comes to kitchen lighting, you have plenty of options. However, not every selection will fit every type of kitchen. When choosing kitchen lighting, here are some things you need to keep in mind.

Under-the-Cabinet Lighting Can Enhance the Look
Under-the-cabinet lighting in a kitchen can definitely enhance the look of the décor. The key to this kind of lighting is to pick a type of light that best fits your layout, particularly that of your cabinets. After all, there may be areas in the room that you don’t want lit. You need to consider all these details before diving into the project. You have three different under-cabinet lighting options that you can choose from, including incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and LED lights. You can determine which will work best for you and your kitchen by doing your research on each type of lamp.

Decorative Lighting Can Add Style
If first and foremost you want your new lighting to fit the style of the room, then you should look at decorative lighting. You can either choose decorative lighting that hangs from the ceiling or that is flush with it. Examples of decorative lighting include products such as chandeliers and pendant lights. These types of lighting fixtures not only look attractive but also will provide plenty of light for the room. If you want to make the light look even more appealing, choose a fixture that will match your kitchen’s theme or style.

Track Lighting Is Great in the Kitchen
If you’ve been keeping up with current design trends, you may have seen track lighting in the kitchen. Track lighting has recently become quite a popular option in the kitchen. Track lighting allows you to direct the light wherever in the kitchen you need it most—for instance, by the stove or near the countertops. In recent years, track lighting has also become way more attractive, as it now comes in many different styles and designs. If you’re looking for a more creative or different look, then consider a track that’s curved or even in an “S” shape rather than going for the more traditional straight line.

Recessed Lighting Is Common in Kitchens
Another popular lighting choice is to install recessed lighting in the kitchen. This type of lighting involves the lights being installed right in the ceiling. Similar to track lighting, most recessed lights are aim-able, so that you can point the light at whatever spot you want in the kitchen. The clean and streamlined look offered by recessed lighting makes it a great choice for contemporary and modern kitchens. Since recessed lights need to be installed in the ceiling, it’s best to hire a professional to do so to be sure it’s done properly and safely.

These days, you have so many different lighting options for your kitchen. Do your research, and you should be able to find a light that matches your kitchen’s style and highlights your beautiful space.

Tips to Make Your Any Kitchen More Colorful

If you’re like most families, you probably spend quite a bit of time in the kitchen. So why not make it more interesting by adding some color to the room? You probably don’t want your kitchen to be dreary and drab, but you may not be sure how to add the right touch. Consider some of these easy ways in which you can add color to your kitchen, making it go from boring to beautiful.

Add Color by Dressing Up Your Table
Dress up your kitchen table as an easy way to add color to your kitchen. Add a colorful tablecloth or placemat set, or display some colorful dishware. Add flowers in a vase or basket to the center of your wood dining table to add some instant color to the room. Try to find colors that will add some interest but also complement your kitchen’s décor.

Add Color with a Backsplash
Don’t let your kitchen backsplash be boring. Although you can always keep it simple with a neutral-colored tile or laminate, why not choose a colorful backsplash instead? You should be able to find tile and laminates for your backsplash in a variety of different colors. If you want a totally unique look, try arranging colored glass that’s been broken up in a random pattern on the wall. Whichever way you decide to go, not only will you add some color to the décor, but you’ll end up with a personalized, one-of-a-kind backsplash.

Paint an Accent Wall a Different Color
Is your kitchen painted a neutral color? Paint an accent wall a different color to add some more color to the room. Choose the wall that’s the least covered with cabinets or appliances. When you select the accent color, be sure it will work well with the rest of your kitchen’s décor. For a more subtle look, go with a matching color. But if you want the wall to really stand out, pick a color that’s complementary.

Take the Doors Off the Cabinets
Showcase your colorful dishes and other tableware by taking the doors off your kitchen cabinets. If you have neutral dishes, add some pop by painting the insides of the cabinets a contrasting color. This doesn’t mean you need to take every cabinet door off. But choose a couple of prominent cabinets about the countertops to be your “color cabinets.”

Use Window Treatments to Add Interest
Chances are, your kitchen has at least one window. Why not utilize that window area to add color? For your valance or drapes, choose a color that will really stand out in the décor. Red or purple window treatments would be a great way to add color to the room if you have, for example, a black-and-white or otherwise neutral kitchen.

You don’t need to redecorate the entire room in order to add color to your kitchen. Rather, build upon what you already have to add your own colorful touches here and there.
